Lady Lions Fall to York

Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Women's Basketball team traveled to Penn State York on Feb. 8, this time with two new players eager to make their mark in their first college basketball games on the road: #10 Sophomore Maria Luna (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/Coughlin High School) and #13 Freshmen Tifany Gomez (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/Wilkes-Barre Area High School). Luna and Gomez saw plenty of time on the court throughout the game, helping the Lady Lions on defense, but even with fresh feet, Wilkes-Barre struggled against York. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 22-8 York. The Lady Lions did not add any points to the scoreboard in the second quarter, the score being 36-8 York at halftime. By the third quarter, Wilkes-Barre regained their scoring, but their opponents continued to hold strong. The score at the end of the third quarter was 59-18 York. The fourth quarter gave the Lady Lions the opportunity to score 4 points. The final score was 79-22 York. Top scorers of the game were #22 Freshman Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) with 8 points, #15 Sophomore Shamonie Rose (Washington, D.C./Kipp High School) with 8 points, and #11 Sophomore Jaidyn Kotch (Nanticoke, Pennsylvania/Nanticoke Area High School) with 4 points. The team's record is now 1-14 in the conference and 2-15 overall.  The Lady Lions will travel to Penn State Mont Alto on Feb. 14 at 6:00 p.m.
