Women’s volleyball wins their first match this season

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's volleyball team played their second match of the season against local PSUAC competitor Penn State Scranton. With a prompt start at 7:00 p.m., the team quickly showed the crowd that they were on a mission to win, looking clean and professional on the court and establishing good communication early on.

The first point of first set was scored by #15 freshman setter Jazmyne Bates. After the first point, the team made sure they had a good lead on Scranton. Showcasing positivity on and off the court, it was easy to see the support they gave one another as they continued to gain an advantage over Scranton. Penn State Wilkes-Barre was first to 25, with a score of 25-6.

The second set started with Wilkes-Barre earning the first two points. #33 sophomore middle hitter Armani Simmons spiked the ball into the center of the opposing team's court, where they couldn't get it in time. Then, #7 sophomore outside hitter Sierra Hildebrand tapped the ball lightly over the net, making it impossible for Scranton to recover. The ending score of the second set was 25-10 Wilkes-Barre.

At the start of the third set, it was clear the team had maximized its comfort on the court, having fun as they hoped to close out with a big win. #9 outside hitter, freshman Ella Fleschut hit the ball at the net to earn a point for her team. Although the third set was closer than the first two, the ladies came out on top for a score of 25-12 Wilkes-Barre.

This is the team's first win of the season, going 3-0 in the match. The team's current record is 1-1. Women's volleyball will look to start a win streak in its next match against King's College on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. Wish them luck!
