Lady Lions win against Bucks County Community College

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m., Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball traveled to Bucks County Community College for their second game of the season. 

The Lady Lions started off strong with #15 junior Shamonie Rose (Washington, D.C./Kipp High School) winning the tipoff. The first points of the game, and first points for Wilkes-Barre were made by #11 junior Jaidyn Kotch (Nanticoke, Pennsylvania/Nanticoke Area High School) in a three-point shot to the net.  

The Lady Lions' defense was in full force, consistently keeping their opponent away from the net. At four minutes left in the first quarter, their defense was so strong that they ran Bucks College to the buzzer on the 30-second shot-clock. The Lady Lions solid defense and offense paid off with the first quarter ending with a score of 13-10 Wilkes-Barre.  

To start off the second quarter #0 junior Tanae Arnold (West Hartford, Connecticut/Monroe College) went for a jump shot just outside the paint and succeeded. Wilkes-Barre utilized every opportunity to get a steal with #10 freshman Charleigh Miner (Shickshinny, Pennsylvania/Northwest High School) got two steals almost back-to-back.  

#24 junior Aysia Pink (Albany, New York/Monroe College) was on fire, sinking three-point shots one after another. Arnold got the AND1 (when a player is in the driving lane, gets fouled, and still manages to score) after making it through two Bucks' players, earning her chance at the free throw line. Arnold showed her unwavering confidence at the line by making both of her shots. 

In the last eight seconds of the second quarter Kotch landed another three-pointer. As the Lady Lions stepped off the court for halftime the was 51-15 Wilkes-Barre.  

Wilkes-Barre had another strong start in the third quarter with Miner making a three-point shot. This set the tone for the Lady Lions, as Kotch followed soon after with a three-point shot of her own.  

During the third quarter, to save the ball from going out of bounds a Bucks player threw the ball back in and right into the hands of #13 freshman Makayla Pass (Brooklyn, New York/Adams Street High School), who then helped #22 sophomore Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) get a layup. The score at the end of the third quarter was 74-21 Wilkes-Barre.  

The final quarter of the game started with Rose making a layup, her first points of the game. From then on Rose continues leveraging her height, managing to score with her long reach. #3 sophomore Inayah Muhammad (Union, New Jersey/Union High School) showed her spirit by winning the ball as she wrestled it from the opposing team's fingers.  

In a stunning victory, the Lady Lions won the game 97-30, making it their first win of the season.
