Women’s basketball challenged by Penn State Lehigh Valley

On Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m., Penn State Wilkes-Barre's women's basketball team took on Penn State Lehigh Valley at home, hoping to secure their second conference win this season. 

#0 junior Tanae Arnold (West Hartford, Connecticut/Monroe College) scored the first points for the Lady Lions, getting two on the board. #14 junior Shamonie Rose (Washington, D.C./Kipp High School) got an AND1 after getting fouled at the net, scoring two points. She then added another point on the board after making her free throw. 

#20 freshman Samantha Snyder, a new player on the team, kept good defense at the net, making sure to keep away from fouls. At the end of the first quarter the score was 33-10 Lehigh Valley. 

#22 sophomore Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) made an incredible steal by grabbing the ball midair as one of Lehigh Valley's players tried to pass to another teammate. 

#3 sophomore Inayah Muhammad (Union, New Jersey/Union High School) made two 3-point shots in a row, adding 6 points to the scoreboard. At the end of the second quarter, the score was 51-24 Lehigh Valley. 

In the third quarter, #15 freshman Haylie Oliphant (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/Wyoming Valley West High School) made a backwards layup, giving the Lady Lions more points on the board. #10 freshman Charleigh Miner (Shickshinny, Pennsylvania/Northwest High School) made a nice drive into the lane towards the net, scoring two points when Lehigh Valley players struggled to keep up. 

At the end of the third quarter, the score was 70-38 Lehigh Valley. 

Charleigh Miner made her mark in the fourth quarter, sinking two 3-point shots. #24 junior Aysia Pink (Albany, New York/Monroe College) made her 3-point shot as well. 

Miner completed a layup after getting a steal and making a fast break to the net. Although Wilkes-Barre fought hard, they could not make up the points. The final score of the game was 95-55 Lehigh Valley. 

Top points scorers of the game were Charleigh Miner with 20, Haylie Oliphant with 8, and Tanae Arnold with 7. The Lady Lions play their next game at home on Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. against Penn State Scranton.
