Lady Lions celebrate triple-digit win against Bucks County Community College

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's women's basketball team played their first game of the spring semester against Bucks County Community College at 6 p.m. The first quarter set the tone for the Lady Lions, #15 freshman Haylie Oliphant (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/Wyoming Valley West High School) getting the first points of the game up on the board by sinking a three-pointer. 

#11 junior Jaidyn Kotch (Nanticoke, Pennsylvania/Nanticoke Area HS) followed, making both a layup and a three-pointer after. Bucks College made their first and only point of the quarter on a free throw, the Lady Lions keeping a strong defense. 

The team made five more layups during the quarter, with a final three-point shot by #24 junior Aysia Pink (Albany, New York/Monroe College). At the end of the quarter, the score was 25-1 Wilkes-Barre. 

Pink started the second quarter with a three-pointer, just 30 seconds in. The Lady Lions could not be blocked at the net, giving them the chance to score a collective 24 points by halftime. 

During the quarter #0 junior Tanae Arnold (West Hartford, Connecticut/Monroe College) got an AND1 and made her free-throw shot. Oliphant also made a steal, resulting in a layup. At the end of the second quarter the score was 49-5 Wilkes-Barre. 

In the third quarter, the ball was thrown to Jaidyn Kotch at half court, and she finished in a layup at the net. #22 sophomore Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) made a steal, where she also finished with a layup. 

Haylie Oliphant made two points off a bounce pass from Aysia Pink. #10 freshman Charleigh Miner (Shickshinny, Pennsylvania/Northwest High School) made a three-pointer with a minute left on the clock. At the end of the quarter, the score was 79-9 Wilkes-Barre. 

In the fourth quarter, Tanae Arnold made a pass to #14 junior Shamonie Rose (Washington, D.C./Kipp High School), who made two points on a jump shot. At the end of the game, the score was 100-13 Wilkes-Barre. 

Top point scorers of the game were Aysia Pink with 24, Haylie Oliphant with 19, and Jaidyn Kotch with 16.
