Lady Lions taken out by Penn State Mont Alto

On Saturday, Jan. 20, the Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team played Penn State Mont Alto at 2 p.m. on their home court. Scoring started off slow for the Lady Lions, #24 junior Aysia Pink (Albany, New York/Monroe College) making a three pointer. 

#22 sophomore Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) added two more points to the score off a jump shot. With less than two minutes left in the quarter, the score became tied after #3 sophomore Inayah Muhammad (Union, New Jersey) tied things up with a layup. 

With two seconds left on the clock, Aysia Pink made a three pointer, putting the Lady Lions ahead by one point. The score at the end of the first quarter was 11-10 Wilkes-Barre.

Wilkes-Barre had a hard time getting shots in the second quarter, their first basketball made with four minutes left by Tanae Arnold. Arnold then made a jump shot, with #15 freshman Haylie Oliphant (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/Wyoming Valley West High School) following suit. 

At the end of the second quarter, the score was 29-19 Mont Alto. 

Inayah Muhammad put the first points of the third quarter on the board off a layup. After being fouled by the other team, Tanae Arnold successfully made both of her free throws, but Wilkes-Barre still trailed behind. The score at end of the third quarter was 47-26 Mont Alto. 

#10 freshman Charleigh Miner (Shickshinny, Pennsylvania/Northwest High School) made a jump shot off a steal from Aysia Pink. Collectively, the Lady Lions made 15 points in an attempt to catch up to Mont Alto. 

The game ended with Aysia Pink making both of her free throws. The final score was 64-43 Mont Alto. Top points scorers of the game were Aysia Pink with 11, Charleigh Miner with 10, and Hannah Cook with 5.
