On Saturday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. the Penn State Wilkes-Barre women's basketball team played Penn State York in their last home game of the season.
#22 sophomore Hannah Cook (Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania/G.A.R. Memorial High School) started off scoring in the first quarter, finished with a layup at the net. #24 junior Aysia Pink (Albany, New York/Monroe College) made her first three-pointer of the game.
#0 junior Tanae Arnold (West Hartford, Connecticut/Monroe College) dominated for the last few minutes of the quarter, starting with a jump shot. Arnold then followed with a layup, and eventually made an incredible save against York, swiping the ball from the net.
Hannah Cook finished off scoring with a hook shot at the net, putting the score for the Lady Lions at 14 points. The score at the end of the first quarter was 22-14 York.
In the second quarter, Tanae Arnold started scoring after pushing through two of York's defenders, completing a jump shot. Aysia Pink showed her shooting skills from the three-point arc, effectively sinking 3 three-point shots. Still, the Lady Lions struggled to catch up to York.
At the end of the quarter, the score was 43-31 York.
In the third quarter, Hannah Cook earned two points for the Lady Lions on a layup. Aysia Pink made another three-pointer, and Tanae Arnold made a jump shot from the side of the net, giving Wilkes-Barre a chance to come back from their point deficit.
#20 freshman Samantha Synder made her first three-pointer of the night, issuing cheers from her side of the bench. Scoring for the quarter finished when Arnold completed a jump shot.
The score at the end of the quarter was 58-44 York.
In the final quarter of the game, scoring stayed slow for the Lady Lions, but Aysia Pink made another three-pointer in a shock clock buzzer beater. Tanae Arnold got the AND1 at the net after completing a layup.
Pink scored her seventh three-pointer of the evening, racking up her share of the points for the Lady Lions. She then secured the ball in a steal at the opposing team's net and made a break for Wilkes-Barre's own net, scoring two points for the team. The final score of the game was 74-56 York.
Top points scorers of the game were Aysia Pink with 27, Tanae Arnold with 13, and Hannah Cook with 9.
