Men's Basketball Gets Ready for Semi-Final Game

Men's Basketball is gearing up for their Semi-Final game verses Penn State Shenango on Friday at 8 pm. Wilkes Barre, the #1 seed in the East, is coming in hot off their hard-fought Quarter-Final win against Penn State Hazelton 55-52. That win marked their 6th in a row and they are going to try their best to keep the streak going on Friday. Penn State Shenango is the #2 seed in the West and are coming off a Quarter-Final win against Penn State Greater Allegheny 64-61. 

This season Wilkes Barre has been the best team in the conference and that is thanks to their team play as well as outstanding individual performances. The leading scorer this season for the Mountain Lions is Khalil White who has been phenomenal off the bench. White is averaging 14.8 points per game on 40% shooting from the field as well as 32% from 3-point range. White has been doing a great job on the offensive side of the ball while senior Ameer Biddle has been getting the job done on the defensive side of the ball. Biddle leads the conference in steals with 2.4 a game as well as 1 block per game. Biddle has been coach LeShawn Hammett's lockdown defender this season. With great length and athleticism Biddle can guard numerous positions and has been one of Wilkes Barre's most consistent players. 

This season Penn State Shenango is 15-11 overall with a 13-6 conference record and is currently on a 4-game winning streak. Shenango is going to be looking for big games from freshmen Gannon Murray and Larry Ransom Jr. This season the leading scorer for Shenango is Gannon Murray who is averaging 15.7 points per game on 50% shooting from the field. Ransom is the second leading scorer for Shenango on the season with an average of 12.2 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding with 11.4 per game. Ransom had an outstanding performance last game as he put up 23 points on 8-13 from the field, 2-2 from beyond the arc and 5-6 from the free throw line. Ransom also grabbed a game high 22 rebounds in their Quarter-Final win. The 23 points for Ransom mark a career high and the 22 rebounds ties his career high in college.  

Penn State Wilkes Barre and Penn State Shenango faced off in one previous matchup this season with Wilkes Barre getting the win by double digits 65-52. This was a home game for Wilkes Barre in which they gained a 5-point lead at half 32-27. Wilkes Barre did not give up the lead for the entire second half finishing the game with a 13-point win. Wilkes Barre was led by Khalil White and Jordan Williams both with 13 points in this one. Williams also added 8 rebounds and 3 blocks to his stat line. The leading scorer for Shenango was Larry Ransom Jr who had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
