Baseball Win Frantic Playoff Game

Yesterday afternoon, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Baseball team came away with a huge victory in the first round of the PSUAC playoffs against Penn State Schuylkill, 6-5. After PSU Schuylkill scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd, the Mountain Lions answered quickly with a 2-run single by Leroy Fettig. Then, in the bottom of the 6th, PSU Wilkes-Barre scored two runs off errors by SS Dalton Hughes to take a 5-4 lead. However, the Mountain Lions were unable to finish the game in the top of the 7th, allowing a bases loaded single to Karlos Joseph to tie the game. Luckily for PSU Wilkes-Barre, the team did not give up. With bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 7th, LF Collin Barletta laid down a perfect bunt that didn't give the defense a play, and won the game for the Mountain Lions.

Key performers for PSU Wilkes-Barre were Eric Adamczyk (2-3, 1 RBI), Frank Brodi (2-4, 2 runs scored), Collin Barletta (2-4, game-winning RBI), and Zach Sott (1-2, 2 BB, 2 SB, 2 runs scored). Jordan Choman started the first 5 innings on the mound for the Mountain Lions, followed by Daniel Constantino, who was the winning pitcher in the game.

For PSU Schuylkill, their key peformers were Chris Kreider (3-3, 2 2B, 1 RBI), Dan Greenawalt (3-4, 2 2B), Karlos Joseph (2-3, 2 BB, 1 RBI) and Dalton Hughes (3-5, 1 RBI). Their starter was Derrick Eberhart, who went the first 5.2 innings. Kyle Kaledas ended up being the losing pitcher.

The next game for PSU Wilkes-Barre in the PSUAC playoffs will be Sunday, May 6th vs. Penn State Dubois at 10 am. All remaining games will be played at Showers Field in Dubois.
