Baseball Goes 1-1 on First Day of Playoffs

Yesterday, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Baseball team went 1-1 on the first day of the PSUAC Tournament. In the first game, Penn State Dubois jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the 2nd inning, and they never looked back. They were led on offense by Joey Dipietro, who went 3-3 with 2 RBIs. They also got a complete game out of their starter, Caleb Bennett, who went 7 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, and 5 strikeouts. For PSU Wilkes-Barre, David Staskiel was 2-3 with a double and an RBI, and Collin Barletta was 2-3. Starting pitcher Jordan Choman only wnet 1.1 innings.

In the second game, the Mountain Lions came away with the 4-3 victory over Penn State Beaver. Michael Sikora had the game winning 2-run single in the bottom of the 6th. Other key contributors for PSU Wilkes-Barre were Leroy Fettig, who went 2-3 with an RBI at the plate, and also pitched 2 innings in relief. David Staskiel was also 1-3 in the game. For PSU Beaver, Matt Capo had an RBI triple, and Justyn Francona had an RBI, as well as a complete game on the mound.

The next game for PSU Wilkes-Barre will be today against Penn State Brandywine at 11 am.
