Women's Basketball Rolls Past Penn State Wilkes-Barre

DALLAS, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball team got off to a 7-0 run in Wednesday night's victory against PSUAC opponent Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre answered immediately, scoring nine straight points to take a 9-7 lead with 1:57 remaining in the first period.

Schuylkill regained the lead following a made jump shot by Serena Jones (New Ringgold, PA / Tamaqua High School) in the final seconds of the quarter. Despite shooting 25 percent from the field during the first period, Schuylkill held a 13-12 advantage heading into the second period.

Kassidy Ingram (Abington, PA / Trinity High School) converted a layup with 9:34 remaining in the second to give Schuylkill a 15-14 lead. Schuylkill would not trail for the remainder off the contest, gaining separation from Wilkes-Barre by outscoring them 22 to 12 in the period. Ingram scored 12 of her 18 points in the second quarter and was a key component to Schuylkill's run.

Schuylkill controlled the boards throughout the contest, totaling 47 rebounds to Wilkes-Barre's 28.

Schuylkill stretched their lead to 20 off a Mackenzie Kerkeslager (Lebanon, PA / Cedar Crest High School) jump shot with 9:20 left to go in regulation. Wilkes-Barre showed signs of hope, going on a 6-0 run midway through the forth to bring their deficit to 60-47.

Schuylkill called a 30 second timeout to halt the run and responded immediately on a made jump shot by Monet Edwards (Philadelphia, PA / Swenson Arts & Technology High School). Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) capitalized on back to back 3-point makes with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to stretch the lead to 19 and put the game out of reach.

Ingram finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading Schuylkill in both statistical categories.  Alahnna Balbach (Gouldsboro, PA / North Pocono High School) added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Edwards notched 10 points. Crockett led Schuylkill with 5 assists to go along with her 9 points. Jones contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds off of the bench.

Schuylkill (9-6. 6-1 PSUAC) will take on two PSUAC West teams this weekend starting with Penn State Beaver on Saturday, January 14th followed by Penn State Fayette on Sunday, January 15th.
