Men's Basketball Falls to Penn State Wilkes-Barre

Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball team held a 16-9 advantage over Penn State Wilkes-Barre with 14:03 to go in the first half following a made jump shot by Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School). A 6-0 run by Wilkes-Barre would close the gap to one with 12:06 remaining.

Wilvens Fleurizard (Tamarac, FL / Coral Springs High School) converted a layup on Schuylkill's next offensive possession to push the lead to 18-15. Wilkes-Barre then proceeded to outscore Schuylkill 26-6 to end the half.

Despite being outscored in the half, Schuylkill equaled Wilkes-Barre in total rebounds, 14. Schuylkill held the advantage on steals for the half, 5 to 3.

With both teams going back and forth for the majority of the second half, a 15-6 stretch by Wilkes-Barre with 7:25 remaining ultimately put the game out of reach.

Schuylkill continued to show signs of fight late in the game. Hadir Boswell (Philadelphia, PA / West Philadelphia Catholic High School) would knock down a jump shot with 5:44 remaining in regulation. Schuylkill then converted on two consecutive three point attempts by Andrew Sepp (Bogota, NJ / Saint Mary High School) and Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) respectively. Wilkes-Barre went on to defeat Schuylkill 95-62.

Fleurizard lead Schuylkill in scoring with 20 points to go with 5 rebounds. Byrd added 13 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Sepp notched 9 points for Schuylkill. Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Cantonsville High School) led Schuylkill in total rebounds with 12 for the contest.

Schuylkill (5-11. 5-2 PSUAC) will take on two PSUAC West teams this weekend starting with Penn State Beaver on Saturday, January 14th followed by Penn State Fayette on Sunday, January 15th.
