Brandywine Routs Wilkes-Barre 90-69

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team avenged a 22-point November loss by routing Penn State Wilkes-Barre 90-69 for the Lions' ninth consecutive conference victory on Saturday afternoon.

The duo of Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) and Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) combined for 49 points on 19-of-31 shooting to pace the scoring effort. Barrouk poured in 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Hockenbrock notched 24 points and five boards.

Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) added 12 points and three assists and Devon Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington) tallied 10 points, while Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) collected nine points and six rebounds. Brandywine's starting five totaled 80 of the Lions' 90 points.

Brandywine scored the game's first seven points, but the Wilkes-Barre rallied to take a 15-14 edge at the 14:24 mark of the first half.

Jones knocked down two free throws to jumpstart a 12-0 Brandywine run that included a pair of fast-break layups from Hockenbrock and triples by Barrouk and A.J. Dreger (Newtown Square, Pa./Bonner-Prendie), putting Brandywine on top by 11.

Wilkes-Barre was within eight with nine minutes to play in the opening half, but Brandywine ripped off 10-straight points capped by a Hockenbrock three-pointer and the Lions built a 15-point halftime edge.

The hosts trimmed their deficit to 12 points with 17:07 to play; however, Dunson sank two free throws and Hockenbrock netted three consecutive buckets as Brandywine pushed its lead to 20 points just four minutes later.

Barrouk drilled his fifth triple of the contest with 9:29 to go, giving Brandywine its biggest lead of the night at 76-51 and the Lions were never threatened the rest of the way.

Brandywine shot 59 percent from the field and buried 11 triples on 21 attempts, while committing just eight turnovers. The Lions' defense held Wilkes-Barre, owner of a six-game winning streak and the conference's top scoring offense, to fewer than 75 points for the first time in 12 conference games this winter.

Brandywine (11-7, 10-2 PSUAC) looks for a 10th-straight PSUAC victory next Saturday when the Lions host Penn State Scranton at 2:00 PM.
