LeShawn Hammett in just his Seven seasons as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Penn State Wilkes-Barre has solidified himself as one of the elite coaches in the USCAA. He was named the 2019 USCAA National Coach Of The Year and has led our men's team to two USCAA National Championships In Program and Men’s PSUAC conference history in the last 4 seasons. Coach Hammett and program are the only Mens basketball program in PSUAC conference history to win USCAA National Championships.

This past season 2022-23 was again a historic season for our program and Coach Hammett. Coach Hammett Led the program to its first ever #1 seed in the USCAA National Tournament history. Not only did he lead the program to a #1 seeding but the team also won its 2nd National Championship in school's history. Coach Hammett this past season led the program to its 5th straight National tournament appearances, our 4th straight 20 win seasons along with winning his 175th game as the Head Coach at PSWB. The programs 25-8 record this season also gives Coach Hammett and the team the most wins and 2nd best record in schools history.

During the 2018-19 season Coach Hammett lead the school to its most wins in the history of the program with 25 Wins and an overall record of 25-5 With a 18-1 PSUAC Conference record. The PSWB Lions also this season we’re East Division Regular Season Champs, Went Undefeated At Home this season with a 12-0 home record, a place where since Hammett’s arrival has a 47-13 home record. The team also moved up to #3 in the Coaches polls which is its highest ranking ever in the USCAA coaches poll. The team also made history with securing a #3 seed in the USCAA National Tournament which was the school's highest seeding at the time.

That season's team had 2 USCAA All-Americans in Khalil White & Ameer Biddle, 3 PSUAC All-Conference In Khalil White, Ameer Biddle & Kevin Silverberg. The Team Also Had 2 USCAA  Academic All-Americans Student Athletes In John Armstead & Domonique Stevenson.

In the 2019-20 Season the team earned its first ever #1 ranking in the USCAA Coaches Poll, posting a 20-8 record which is the school's 2nd ever 20 win season in schools history. All 20 wins seasons in schools history comes to PSWB by Coach Hammett. The team ended the 2019-20 campaign with a loss in the First round of the 2020 USCAA Small College National Tournament. It is also the school's 6th National Tournament Appearance, 5th Under Coach LeShawn Hammett.

In the 7 years of leadership under Coach Hammett the team has posted a 143-63 overall record with an impressive 92-32 In PSUAC conference play. The team has made the playoffs every year with 3 PSUAC conference championship game appearances. In the 7 seasons with Coach Hammett at the helm, playing in Lehman has become a tough place to play as the Lions have a impressive 72 -18 home record. Coach Hammett Also Holds The Program Home Win Streak Record Of 26 Straight Hime Wins In A Row.

Coach Hammett has also in his 7 seasons coached 12 USCAA All-Americans, 15 All Conference Players, 2 Newcomer Of The Year winners, 2 PSUAC Defensive Player Of The Year and 9 Academic All-Americans. He also has 8 players playing professionally abroad that played for him at PSWB (Colton Lewis , Chris Cantine, Ameer Biddle, Marc Emile, Jayden Hampton, Shakur Jackson, Anthony Picott, Kevin Major, Kevin Silverberg & Jordan Williams.

Before Wilkes-Barre he held this same position from 2012-2015 at Cecil College, where he won Region XX and District 14 Coach of the Year awards twice in 2013 & 2014. During his tenure at Cecil he won two Region XX championship and went to the 2013 NJCAA National Tournament. While at Cecil he assisted over 18 student-athletes to obtain scholarships to play at the Division One and Division Two levels over a three-year span. Hammett coached a one-thousand point scorer (Donte Adams), who went on to be a 2^nd Team NJCAA All-American, and two point guards (Charles Burley and Fat'eem Glenn), who both finished the season leading the NJCAA in assists. He also currently has 11 players from his Cecil stint playing professionally in the United States and overseas.

Coach Hammett Currently Has 20 Of His Former Players From Both His PSU Wilkes-Barre & Cecil College Playing Professionally.

Coach Hammett is a graduate of nearby Luzerne County Community College in Naticoke, PA, where he currently ranks as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Scoring 1,325 points in 2 seasons. After a highly successful career at LCCC, Coach Hammett went on to play at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania for a degree in communications. Subsequently he played professionally in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia for 7 seasons.

Originally from the Bronx, New York, Hammett is married to Mahogany Hammett and has four children: Te’onna (23), LeShawn Jr. (18) Michael (12) and Liam Anthony (6).
